midpoint

Shelf only tall enough for mass-market paperbacks, so this is pretty much a fiction shelf.
Shelf only tall enough for trade paperbacks. Most of the rest of the fiction is here.
hobby shelf #1: baseball books. And gloves. And hat, signed by Kerry Wood, lest any of you forget.
Neuroscience
psychiatry theory, and some non-neuroscience.
This shelf took me a long time. Some is straight-up history, but I had a helluva time categorizing the rest. Dewey decimal system?
Fic that didn't fit down there, also plays and poetry which seem to be oddly shaped.
Category: painfully miscellaneous. No really, this shelf is down here because it will bother me that it's unorganized.
The tall and heavy referencey stuff like yearbooks and all-in-one Shakespeare.
This shelf makes sense, but only to me. It goes: Tanach I got at my bat mitzvah -- Ulysses and Lolita and other Joyce/Nabokov -- strunk and white -- productivity books like Getting Things Done-- my dissertation -- biostats books.
Harry Potter. Jeez, that kid takes up a lot of space.
See? Brian has plenty of room! Oh wait my computer junk is on the out of frame parts of these shelves.
Not yet on shelves: other hobby books, like knitting and photography, and cookbooks.
My vision was to have a, like, checkerboard thing, with chotchke shelves for things like this scattered about attractively. Now I'll just be happy if they get a shelf at all.
Lurve my new imac. Need a taller chair tho, this is an ex-sewing machine table, not a desk, and it's too high.
LoC, so much better than DD. Plus, for a bazillion dollars a year you can get software that will download the LoC style catalogue entry into your database. We use it at the museum :).
For only a bazillion dollars??! A deal at half the price! Lucky for me I know a Librarian of Congress. Maybe she can hook me up.

[lots of notes]

and here's what I did this weekend. ~36 feet in the end and brian's still to come.

I used to have over twice as many books, but I did a big pre-DC-move purge and left a lot behind. I sorta miss being one of those people with a jillion books. But only sorta.

Wow, that is AWESOME! I am jealous. My vision was to always have chotchkes placed here and there too, just like in the magazines. But they just don't all fit on my one bookshelf. *sigh*
