Thanks guys! dang you are fast, b! Ended up having a nice chat with the guy who did notice me, who thought I might be doing it for a class, and chimped this one with him.

Glad you like it Dalmatica, this is the kind of shot I live for.

Perfect shot of urban life. THe composition is amazing, colors ... everything. the glow from the screen of the guy in the right is great too ...

I have a hard time taking pictures of people because I worry about their reaction.

Cool, you got a good Metro-mirror shot (the bench divider does make a handy camera support).

I know what you mean vicbel. It sure helped that they both had earphones on...I might have gotten up the guts otherwise, but it would have been harder.

what I like about the bench as divider is the ISO/shutter speed combos it lets me use :)

techne, this is perfection! The colors, the composition, the divine juxtaposition of heads, bench back, pillar, "Medical Center," convergence of vaulted tunnel's lines, headphones... OMG! Perfect, perfect, perfect. And you coped with that Metro lighting so well. Wow. Perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect.

Oh, and I like it, too, by the way.

Note to all who asked about if these guys saw me taking the shot: The left hand guy did at the time, not the computer guy. But later I noticed him in my cafeteria at work! (I have a print of the shot on my wall, so his profile is very familiar to me.) When the photo was accepted for the DCist Exposed show, I finally had a pretense to approach him about (before, "Hey I took a picture of you and a lot of people like it" seemed a little silly).

He likes the shot and may even attend the opening. I told him to bring his laptop so people would recognize him...

I can't begin to describe how magnificent this photograph is. It's not just the perspective, the symmetry, the great depth of field, the light (oh, so difficult in Washington, DC's Metro), but it's that perfect moment you captured that makes this such an amazing photo. This is one of those photographs that fulfills the mission of a photograph being worth a thousand words.

techne - That's just awesome. I do hope you encourage him to come to the show. Tell him DCist gives him a personal invitation. Everytime I look at this photo, the guy on the right looks so familiar to me. I'm not sure, but I may have gone to law school with him. I wonder if we can track him down and take some meta-photo of the two of them in front of your framed photo.
