[backlog] I questioned this homosexuality poster

[backlog] I questioned this homosexuality poster by techne.
And decided it was anti-, and I got real mad and got out my camera. And so did this other woman. And then DCist got pissed too and made me and leepus' parody POTD. And a lot of other people weighed in.

so what the hell happened on June 10th? I sort of imagine something like a Moonie mass wedding with some dude pronouncing everyone "changed."

no there are evangelicals out there who run deprogramming sessions for gay people to "bring them back to the Lord." The psych community is totally down on them as they cause people a lot more problems than they already have and can do quite a bit of psychological harm. Of course, that's now that the DMSO 4 doesn't catagorize homosexuality as a mental health issue. CNN had a really good special report on the guy behind the movement. Sleazebag zealot prettty much.

The "we can cure your homosexualty" crowd held a one-day conference about it on the same day as the pride parade, June 10. The sign appeared last week, I've just been less than timely about posting it :)

I dunno yeast....that one actually burns me more. At least it's more honest and condemns divorce as well as the gay.

I like Monica's dcist post idea. Should be easy to mock up the same ad with Monica's modest changes, print to 8.5x11 label paper and grassroots that sucker all over town. Less talk, more rebellion...

While googling something else ("hollywood babylon danny kaye olivier", if you must know), I found this relevant site that would be hilarious if it weren't so scary, or scary if it weren't so hilarious:

www.jesus-is-savior.com/Evils%20in%20America/ Sodomy/homos...

that's a helluva google, all the more so for generating that. My hat is off to you sir.

The government, I tell ya. They block access to sites like tshirthell.com, but I can see "jesus-is-savior" just fine.

it isn't the jesus is savior thing that I'm surprised about-- I'm surprised the gov let you look at something whose address ends America/Sodomy/homos.

We need to get a TON of people out to vote the neo-nazis (read "Ultra-Right Wing Republicans") out of power. Those scumbags are downright scary.

You all are so funny....what a bunch of hypocrites. You want "tolerance" and respect for YOUR lifestyle...but when it comes to other people choosing what they want to do then you become as bigoted as the people you hate.
If that woman in the add wanted to leave the gay lifestyle then is that not her right to choose? Or is the right to choose only for gays or lesbians to choose to be gay and not the other way around?

From your midset anyone who questions homosexuality and sodomy is a nazi or bigot. Wow....how narrowminded. So where is your tolerance you talk so much about?

How dare you come on my photostream, misrepresent my beliefs, and call me intolerant. You clearly have no clue what our "midset"s are or of why we object to this ad. Speaking only for myself, here's a hint: I support Exodus' right to exist just as I support the right of the KKK to exist. But I think both groups harm the fabric of American society and should be marginalized, not allowed to advertise on public transportation.

Our comments have nothing to do with ridiculing the personal struggles an individual may have with their sexuality. If an unfortunate soul thinks Exodus is the way to resolve their sexuality issues, I have nothing but pity for the pain they are about to go through.

Also, I hate to tell you, but people in advertisements are usually hired models, not actual people.

Karen

You are talking to a stone wall. Those who hate people of all faiths who take a stand on some type of religion are so filled with anger that they are beyond reason. The Koran forbids sodomy as well. So I am hated by these people along with you. They are the true bigots. Yes you are right they want only "tolerance" for themselves - not others who may choose not to be what they are. Let them run to their own destruction and keep your own paths straight.

Peace

If someone wishes to follow a particular religion and the behavioral modifications it imposes, I admire their commitment and wish them the best. I merely ask such people not to impose those modifications on the rest of the world. There is nothing peaceful about prosetylization.

And I ask - who are you to deny a people their faith? What right do you have to stop people of any religion to share their beliefs with others? If you wanted to "proselytize" YOUR lifestyle or view of life you would do so and would be very upset if anyone tried to limit YOUR freedom. So, how dare you try and limit the rights and freedoms of those of us who profess a faith?

I call that hypocrisy. Tolerance is a two way street.

Sorry.

In what way is complaining about this ad to the Metro an attempt to limit a faith? You have constructed a straw man argument here. If you truly wish to understand my position, argue against what my position actually is, not what you are projecting onto me.

techne said above (emphasis mine):

"Speaking only for myself, here's a hint: I support Exodus' right to exist just as I support the right of the KKK to exist. But I think both groups harm the fabric of American society and should be MARGINALIZED, not allowed to advertise on public transportation."

Then techne said:

"In what way is complaining about this ad to the Metro an attempt to limit a faith? "

Techne compares certain religious groups to the KKK and says that Christians should be marginalized. Then he innocently states that he does not want to limit faith??????

Huh? Do you remember what you write on your page?

I do. People of oppressive faiths can shout as loud as they like, as may people of non-oppressive faiths and people of no organized faith. What I'd like is for the great middle to agree with me, as you'd like them to agree with you. That none of us can force this to happen is what makes America a good place to live.

Also, I am female. As such I have many opinions about how faiths limit freedoms.

Post again and all your comments will be deleted. if you want them to live somewhere, post them on the blog page where they belong. This is a photography website and I've been entirely too tolerant of your trolling.

I rest my case. Thank You!! You are a coward and a fraud. What are you afraid of? The fact you are deleting my comments are proof of your hypocrisy and deceit. This whole dialogue is already copied on a Muslim website to illustrate your bigotry and intolerance for ALL to see. Delete away.... you have exposed yourself and your homo agenda for what it is.

SO MUCH FOR YOUR BELIEF IN “TOLERANCE”

HYPOCRITE!!!!!

Please delete me and prove my point.
