Heliograph 1

Heliograph 1

This is one of the coolest things I've ever experimented with in photography. This is a 3 week exposure of the sun rising and setting over Ephrata High School (Ephrata, PA). 3 weeks ago I set two homemade film canister pinhole cameras up on the roof, loaded with B&W photo paper. This is the resulting exposure. The sun is so bright that the paper does not require any developing. The image is burnt into the paper's emulsion.

The film canister pinhole camera is not difficult to make and B&W photo paper is not hard to find. I'll be posting a "How-to" on this topic in a little while.

And if any of my current Advanced photo students are reading this: Yes, we will be doing this. Tomorrow. Wednesday, Feb 1. 2012.

Red Wine

Red Wine

Incredibly simplistic, but surprisingly difficult to shoot. The wine glass is sitting on a piece of white acrylic with a 60" softbox providing the majority of the light and creating the white background. Two black flags to the right and left create the subtle black outline. Other than cleaning some dust spots and tweaking some contrast, this is mostly straight from the camera.

Strobist: SB-80DX into 60" Apollo Softbox as background, Hacked Vivitar 2500 shot up underneath the white acrylic to lighten it, Gobos right and left. Fired by PW +II

Baking Oatmeal Cookies

So, I finally had some time to shoot some photos a few days ago. I enjoyed the problem solving of shooting food this way.

Strobist: Main light is natural light from windows camera right, fill flash from SB-80DX through STU camera left and behind table (11 o'clock). Fired by PW +II
