Limpet scars

Something I have never seen before, these limpets are actually boring into the mudstone.

The shape and appearance of the borings suggest that the limpets do this by moving their shells back and forth slightly to abrade the underlying rock.

Limpet scars are apparently pretty common and limpets will wander about and come back to their "home scars". Learn something new everyday.
