Adult Center - January 2009
With this display of quilts, we are honoring a Founding Member of Thumb Butte Quilters. She is Trenien Conner. Thumb Butte Quilters was organized in July of 1995, and Tren has been a driving force within the Guild since its beginnings. The quilts hanging in the atrium of the Prescott Community Center are among the many made by Tren. Thank you, Tren, for your contribution to the quilting world, and for sharing your quilts with us.

Standing at the Reception Desk, looking South out the front door, beginning with the first small quilt in the southwest corner, and going around the room clockwise, Tren’s quilts are as follows:

(small quilt location--southwest corner) This quilt, made of four red and pink Lone Stars, is hand pieced and hand quilted. Tren made this quilt when she was learning the process of quilt making.

(Large Quilts on the West Wall):

One of her few pieced quilts, this ‘Burgoyne Surrounded’ in red and white is an eye-popper! It is machine pieced, and machine quilted. The pattern dates back to the Civil War.

‘Sharon’s Quilt’ hangs in the center of this wall, and was made for her daughter on the occasion of her marriage to Patrick Bourbonnie in September 1996. It is appliquéd and quilted by hand.

The ‘Red Princess Feather’ is hand appliquéd and machine quilted. ‘Princess Feather’ is also an ‘age-old’ quilt pattern.

(small quilt location--northwest corner) ‘Hooray USA’ was made early in Tren’s quilting journey…and celebrates the USA! It is hand quilted.

(small quilt location--northeast corner) ‘Autumn Leaves’ is hand appliquéd and hand quilted.

(Large quilts on East Wall):

‘Memories of Annapolis’ took two years to applique and a third year to hand quilt. It was begun in a class with internationally known quilt teacher, Elly Sienkiewics.

‘Blue and Purple’ is an award winning quilt! Blocks were created by members of the mini-group, ‘Appliquettes‘. The quilt is hand quilted. It won ‘Viewer’s Choice’ at TBQ’s 2001 Quilt Show. It received a ‘Best Amateur Quilt’ ribbon at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival XIV in 2003 in Williamsburg, VA. It appeared on the cover of the internally known magazine, Quilters Newsletter, and then it appeared as the featured February quilt in Quilters Newsletter Magazine’s 2004 Calendar.

‘Autumn Album’ is another winner--with a ‘Viewer’s Choice’ award at TBQ’s 2005 Quilt Show. It is hand appliquéd and machine quilted.

(small quilt location--southeast corner) ‘My Boxer’s Quilt’ is an applique pattern by Jeanna Kimball, with pieced borders. The block backgrounds reminded Tren of men’s boxers! It is hand appliquéd and hand quilted.
