Adult Center - July 2008
For your viewing pleasure, the latest presentation of quilts has been hung by the Thumb Butte Quilters Guild. The theme for this display is “Stars and Stripes Forever”. Summer in Prescott is the time when the stars come out! We hope you enjoy our star spangled quilts!

The makers of the quilts now hanging in the atrium of the Prescott Community Center are as follows: (standing at the Reception Desk, looking South out the front door, beginning with the first small quilt in the southwest corner, and going around the room clockwise):

Sandy Mitchell, quilt maker. (small quilt location--southwest corner) This quilt is named “An American Dream”. There are 13 log cabin blocks representing the 13 colonies and 50 stars representing the United States. The 10 Blocks in the quilt represent the following: Freedom’s Colors, Ringing True, Majestic Bounty, Liberty’s Torch, American as Apple Pie, Wings of Freedom, Home Sweet Home, Enduring Faith, Shining Seas and America’s Future.

(Large Quilts on the West wall):

Mary Andra Holmes, quilt maker. This Star Quilt was made to honor well-known Arizona quilter, Laurene Sinema--a star to all of us, and is made from fabrics designed by Laurene.

Lorraine Owen, quilt maker. “Starlite” was pieced and machine quilted by Lorraine, finished in March 2006.

Jean Ehlers, quilt maker. This “Star Sampler” was completed in 1998, and is hand quilted.

Carol Stewart, quilt maker. (small quilt location--northwest corner) “Calico Stars” started with a ‘cheater panel’ in the center. Carol and Gale Willcox pieced and appliquéd borders to match. You can’t tell where the cheater stops and the rest of the quilt starts!!

Kathryn Edwards, quilt maker. (small quilt location--northeast corner) The quilt pattern is “Around the Twist” in patriotic colors!

(Large quilts on the East wall):

Carol Stewart, quilt owner. This “Mariner’s Compass” quilt was made by members of Thumb Butte Quilters as a fund-raiser Opportunity Quilt. Carol was the lucky winner!

Kristi McHugh, quilt maker. “Millennium Star” was made as a mystery quilt when Kristi was a member of the San Luis Valley Quilt Guild. It is machine pieced and machine quilted; started in 2000 and finished in 2006.

Dottie Mercer, quilt maker. This quilt named “Starburst” makes you proud, doesn’t it?!

Linda Hill, quilt maker. (small quilt location--southeast corner) “Star Dance” was a ribbon winner at the 2007 Yavapai County Fair.
