Fooling around with lighting. I dont think i quite got it. though. and i had to get back to work as i had to push my monitor and tower to the side to make space for the shot. and the flash..

i need more light.. gotta get that Sb-24 saw it on ebay for 79 dollars. I"m so broke though :(.. sigh....

I tried using whtie paper to bounce some of the light back unto the knife and the ipod but it didn't work that well.

I think the reason why your bounce didn't work is because your aperture is too small... instead of going at f11 ~ 1/60th try going with f8 ~ 1/200th and dial down your strobe to match. Remember how I was explaining to you guys at the flickrmeet that flash always hits at the same force therefor flash is controlled with the aperture and ambient is controlled with shutter speed.

The f value from your bounce was probably coming in at f7.1 or lower.. depending on the type of paper.. if it's glossy it reflects more.. etc.. so since your lens was stopped down to f11 the bounce wouldn't show up..

Also your bounce card needs to be aimed in for it to be most effective.. meaning you either have to know your angles (are you a good pool player?) or if not do like it do and use a flashlight as a modeling light to figure out the right angle for your bounce, then lock your bounce card in with a clamp..

keep it up, you'll learn lot's from these small experiments and how to blend in your light... When I first started, i'd just shoot light and overpower everything...
