DVD player hacking

This refers rather to the tray than the firmware I reckon... :P

Replaced the 6 year old dvd player's firmware with some open firmware, and now we have a bunch of new features.
Most useful is we can now skip that "federal warning" thing which is used by some dvd publishers to force you sit through trailers and adverts before you can watch the movie you own.
Also now does jpeg and mpeg...
and also, now has harddrive support - just need to find an old IDE and plug it in inside the case.

it's a blackdiamond player. Inside it's mostly PC parts. We replaced the IDE DVD drive a few years ago with a more reliable one. - i also learned that you can buy IDE network cards, and this thing will recognise it - but it talks some strange protocol so you gotta install drivers on your PC that will that DVD player will read anytyhing you share.. and of course those drivers are only for one crappy operating system that i'm not gonna touch with a very long pole.

I've been inside my DVD player (thinking somehow a DVD had disappeared inside), and there's practically nothing in there.

The control over the ability to skip things is the most annoying thing. I hate those "you wouldn't steal blah blah blah so don't pirate because then we feel bad!" ads. DIE AD DIE.
