View from Cerro Amigos, Costa Rica
Getting to the highest summit of Monteverde, which tops at 1,840m was one of the toughest workout of our entire trip. The trail up the hill was steep (yes, very steep...imagine slopes of 60 degrees slant) and slippery from the rain. Took us almost 2 hours of solid "trekking" to get up there in time to watch the sunset, before we had to hurry down the trail under failing lighting conditions, made worse by the trek condition.
Nonetheless, the view on the summit was not short of spectacular. Unfortunately it was a fairly cloudy day, resulting in views of the Arenal Volcano, Pacific Ocean and even the southern part of Nicaragua to be hidden from our sight. Still unforgetable experience.
