Living Room Wall Day 3![]() Well that's the joinery completed. I think on second thoughts I will insulate the wall on the exterior edge (the window area). There's no knowing how much good it will do despite being 23-inches of rock and I will always be worrying that I should have done it. Insulation is cheap, it'll pay for itself in reflected heat from that radiator anyway...
A brief note about window styles: The old window arrangement has fluted window surrounds. The house had all kinds of different styles, shapes and angles so when I started to replace the windows I took the decision to have the window surrounds all squared (modern style) so this is why the masonry is fluted and the joinery is squared. ...and the out-of-true looking bit in the doorway in the plaster? It really was that wonky. I kept having to refer to my plumb line and spirit level as the eye was telling me one thing, gravity another... I went for gravity and glad I did too. Its probably not been level -- ever. The wall uses about 50 vine eyes. 80 Rawlplugs, 120 screws and that radiator sits on a set of 2 x 2 bracing so over-engineered the thing aint coming off in the next few decades In fact the frame alone can take all manner of abusive yanking, pulling and hanging things from. I have 5 lengths of 2 x 2 left over for another project. I'll insulate tomorrow plus plumbing and electrics I think before boarding it up -- its a shame to cover all that work really... My joinery has come on in the past few months -- I did that in no time at all! Just cleaned up. Washed the vacuum cleaner and put the tools away! A bottle of Beer calls and something to eat now (I think I shall create something with a ratatouille). Laters. about insulating - good call. good as air-gaps are, insulation is better. and despite the mammoth thickness of the stone walls, if you're creating an air-gap, why not fillet, (as the fishmonger's daughter said). cheers!
