My favourite New Jersey tree offers a last defiant blast of colour before settling in for a leafless winter. It will be bare in a couple of days.

This is stunning my friend....It has color, movement, vibrancy. I love trees like that too -- the twists and turns of time right there for all to see.

Hey, thank you all for those very nice comments. It occurs to me that these shots give the impression of a towering giant, whereas the Japanese Maple is actually a very petite tree. It just looks big if you lie down underneath it with a weird toy camera.

PS: Kevin, I have to admit I was not entirely uninspired by your magnificent dead tree series (one of the great sets on Flickr, folks - rush there at once if you don't know it). Alas, my tree is on the side of a big hill and half of New Jersey would have to be underwater for me to get those epic mists and reflections you manage !
