The DOF is way too shallow for this shot and it leaves some important areas of the hands out of focus. I noticed the watch is focused but I think the focus should have been closer where the front of the hands are. It looks soft the way it is but the watch is sharp which is distracting. I think 5.6 or smaller would have worked fine. Good exposure, good work with sepia. Nice use of light.

      Composition: 9
Great job here. Perfect placement with the diagonal flow. Shooting straight down works well I think.

      Impact: 5
This is a wierd one for me. I like the shot (minus the tech issue I mentioned). I like the comp and the idea and the exposure but I'm confused by what the image is saying. To me it looks like a grasp of hands that are slipping apart. They aren't holding hands they're holding wrists and for me I make the connection of a stronger grip with that. So it seems like a struggle to hold hands. But then there's a love song quoted in the text. I just don't make that connection here and I'm not sure what to make of it. Also the watch seems out of place to me but on the other hand (no pun intended) it shows character...

      Commercial Viability: 4
Again the tech issue might hinder this but it could be used for editorial use. If it were technically efficient I would say fine art too.

I am going to disagree with the former critique about the DOF issue on this image. YES there is a DOF issue, but to my eye it is just the opposite. I think DOF should be MUCH shallower. Why? I can still see the weave of the sheet in the BG, which is a no-no for this type of image. I want smooth and creamy Bokeh for this type of image. So that means the hands are going to have to be further away from the BG if at all possible. The real issue here is that nothing seems to be in critical focus...it was probably hand held and at a physically odd angle when captured, so it may have been well impossible to make this sharp under the circumstance.

      Composition: 7
This is a good composition that just needs to be rotated left or right (portrait)..which will better effect the next section, impact.

      Impact: 4
I am with Brian on this one. I can't really make out what is attempting to be communicated here. First, I do "get it" to some degree in that this is a young person and a more senior person...and there are many messages one might construe from that. I think rotating the image into portrait composition would increase its impact.

      Commercial Viability: 3
As it sits, this will be a hard image to sell. There are MANY images out there such as this where DOF, composition, and more importantly dramatic lighting will lend it's self to better sales. However, you are on the right path here and I want to encourage you to explore the message and idea of this image further. Maybe look into ways you can add some dramatic lighting to a re-shoot of this image in the near future. I would love to see it!!

technical it has some basic flaws ..almost black and white (muted colored shot) with a white background ..absolutely not a good idea ..the subject i getting mixed up with the background .and on top of that the hands are looking bit out of focus ..which might not be the case in real but becoz of this background .it is looking so..
and sue shalow depth of field so that the cloth folds are not visible ..

Composition:7 the composition is fine ..the diagonal is right way compose such picture .not much there to complain just make sure the watch is not cropped

      Impact: 6
could have been quite impactful if the color , focus and background was right

      Commercial Viability: 5
since with the current color it's not eye catchy ..i don't think it would be very much commercially vaible

Thank you all for your helpful comments and critics! In response to some of them:

      - The hands look a bit out of focus because I shot this picture at 200 iso, which means some grains with my camera :(

      - I totally agree with the background issue! I wanted to take it with a black background, but I couldn't find the black cloth at the time.. This picture would definately benefit from a more blurry background, thanks for your suggestions there.

      - rotating this image doesn't work out that well at all, as I tried that before posting, The shadows and lights seemed odd & onnatural when I did that

      - I put the text there for the one I love, not to create a general message for everyone... sorry to confuse you with that.

      thanx again!!!

This is an interesting image. The exposure looks spot on and I like the detailing in the arm textures. There is a slight light blow out in the fingernail of one of the hands and I find it slightly distracting, however, it doesn't detract from the photograph too much. Overall sharpness is good although I'm not thrilled with the black and white edit. It looks slightly flat to me. I think a sharper tonal range in this shot would definitely help in achieving some additional depth to this shot.

      Composition: 3
I don't really think the comp works (for me). I think that to increase the interest of this shot, a stronger angle needs to be used, or I would completely balance the shot so that the arms sit parallel to the framing (left to right).

      Impact: 4
Your image is interesting for what it is. However, I don't find it having any lasting impact. There is some great detail here, but I find my eyes wander a bit throughout the image. From the title, I seems as if you are going for something that shows a bit of emotion (like a hand grasping for another hand)... and I don't really get that feeling.

      Commercial Viability: 4
I might see this hanging in a local Starbucks, but I think that it may just get lost in the myriad of other hanging photographs. I think that this shot has the potential to be a fine art print, but just wasn't realized fully in this shot. I think a different comp would definitely help in this regard.
