Taking a chance with the very showery weather at Knaresborough, we sat
outside at a riverside cafe and enjoyed the view. The very changeable
weather didn't put off these youngsters in their hired rowing boats...
I'm guessing they would have come off the boats wet, even if it was a
bright sunny day :-)
An elegant Victorian stone viaduct over the River Nidd has four-spans
and stands at 78ft high above the water, each span measures 56ft 9in
across. I think seeing only the two spans with the rowing boats and
train help to give scale to this wonderful structure.
Much better large.. I think it's good for a compact camera :-)
An added note: I noticed the roof of the lovely thatched cottage to the right of the viaduct (out of shot) has been fired.. hope it's soon repaired.. I wondered if the cause could have been a burning ember from one of the passing steam trains, I don't know, would be interested to find out if anyone knows :-)

I can't think of the words I need to explain what I think of this.... I like how everything looks so little compared to the bridge which looks giant.

What a great scene. I like that you caught the train overhead with the rowboat below.

We didn't Glen, I always think it's a bit of a rip off... I do keep meaning to have a wander along that side of the river, it's such a long time since I was last there, there's some great views. We only popped out for the afternoon, had a walk round the shops and a snack at the cafe.. considering it kept raining, it was still very pleasant :-)

I can only think of one thatched roof, and that was renewed fairly recently - if it is the one I am thinking of, its a real shame that so much craftsman time has gone up in smoke. I like the perspective you have taken the photo from - I have only tried from up high. Very occassionally steam trains use the line; one day I will try and find out in advance and aim for a shot like this.

same weather when we went last month showers/sun . first visit for ages looked a bit run down with the big building near the main road boarded up and hardly anyone about. even the cafe with the boats is up for sale. we had a cuppa there and enjoyed the same view.

thats the viaduct I would have liked to catch this on.

Great pic of a beautiful part of Knaresborough.
PS. Manor Cottage (the thatched roof cottage) was the victim of an arson attack earlier last year :(
Tall Guy 30 months ago | reply
Hi Donna,
thanks for the info, arson isn't good but at least the last time I passed the roof looked well on it's way to being repaired :-)

I have been following progress each time we go into Knaresborough. I'm guessing the roof is complete now. Will be going later today to take some new pics x
