Light and Dark........

Does this work? I think I've nearly got what I wanted after a bit of dodge and burn.

The track along Blea Hill Beck, not bad for January.

This is an amazing photo. It just wouldn't be the same without the shadows!!! Where is Blea beck?

    Alex,
Blea Hill Beck is not far from Littie Beck near Sleights in the Esk valley.

To get to it start from the car park shown on the map. Blea Hill Beck is on the right hand side of the map. You can only see Hill Beck printed on the map, you'll have to scroll the map to see more.

It works very well indeed, very eyecatching

Yes it works marvelously. Nice long shadow playing on the highlighted grasses. Contre Jour takes like these are always a big challenge!

Nice work, Alan. I was really struck by the square thumbnail that appears on the previous image page. That seems to accentuate the bright light and the strong diagonal shadows.

    Hi Roger,

I had already been playing around with that idea......

    Does it work......

Interesting....your alternative version makes it a completely different image, all about the tones of colour, rather than the lighting effect. I would never have thought of doing that! The more I look at it, the more I like it.

I puposely took some of the colour out of this square crop, originally I tried it in black and white, I then decided a touch of colour improved it.

This is a great shot to begin with, I love the long shadows of trees in photos, just something about them captivates me. However, I have to agree that the square crop really enhances the lines, and the processing is good too.

Love this photo either way. To me, the shadows of the trees look like steps into a beautiful forest.
