You've all seen this photo before but I've brought it back to the fore because of recent activity and views it has suddenly gained..
It now appears on FACEBOOK.. nobody had the decency to ask if they could use it... and although there is a ( poor ) link to my photo page the photo isn't clickable as it should be.. nowhere is there a mention of me the photographer.
In one way it is good to know people like your photo's but if it wasn't for Flickr statistics ( sudden big jump in daily views ) I wouldn't have even known it was being used on Facebook.. another problem about it is I have no way of replying to peoples comments that are being made, (most are good ) as I am not on Facebook and I'm trying very hard not to be on it..
Do you think it's right that other people should be able to get a following based on other people's work ( photo's )... it's a funny one, but it would have been oh so good if they'd asked..
Maybe I shouldn't have put on the Facebook link, now the person will
probably get more views.

I stood on the edge of Cowbar Nab, high above Staithes, with the
seagulls flapping and screaming around me.. I was waiting for the sun
to light up the buildings, I liked the smoke coming from the
chimneys... when the sun did finally get through I had to shield my
lens from the sun which was almost directly in front of me.. Once
home, I realised my hand was partly in shot on the top right, and the
sky was blown. Being the only shot that I got with the sun on the
buildings I decided to set to and try and work the photo as I would
have liked it.. for once there is no hdr :-)
Taking the shot from high above meant the buildings looked squat and
leaning.. the horizon was on the half way mark and the shot looked
unbalanced.. I did some perspective alterations, trying to correct the
angle and slightly giving more height to the buildings. I then
corrected the sky removing my hand from the shot.. I think it looks
more like the real thing now as all the distortion from using a wide
angle lens pointed down has been corrected.
If you look at the posting I did of the Cod and Lobster, you might be able to see someone stood with a tripod up on Cowbar Nab in the spot that this was taken from.

I had someone pass off one of my shots as their own on facebook. As luck would have it, someone that knew my stuff saw it and told me. Worst thing was, it wasn't a very good photo....a scan of a print in fact.
It was a bit embarrassing for the fellow concerned.

You are generous in sharing your beautiful images and people should be gracious enough to ask if they can use them. I love keeping up with your photo's.
