,,,where to be lasts but an instant where every instant

spills in the void the ignorance of having been

without this wave where in the end

body and shadow together are engulfed

what would I do without this silence where the murmurs die

the pantings the frenzies toward succour towards love

without this sky that soars

above its ballast dust

what would I do what I did yesterday and the day before

peering out of my deadlight looking for another

wandering like me eddying far from all the living

in a convulsive space

among the voices voiceless

that throng my hiddenness

The shape of the spar and its cables is said to evoke an image of a harp lying on its edge. The harp is a secular icon for Ireland and things Irish.

Samuel Beckett Bridge is a beautiful, harp shaped bridge that spans over the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland.

This bridge connects Sir John Rogerson's Quay to Guild Street and North Wall Quay. Santiago Calatrava designed the Samuel Beckett Bridge in 2007 and the construction was completed in 2009. The shape of the tapered spar and its 31 cable stays evokes an image of a harp, the secular icon for Ireland. The bridge will have four traffic lanes, with cycle tracks and footpaths on either side. It will also be capable of opening through an angle of 90 degrees allowing ships to pass through. This will be achieved through a rotational mechanism housed in the base of the pylon.

The bridge is a cable-stayed, steel box girder structure with a span of 120 metres between north and south quay walls. An asymmetric shape will be provided through the positioning of the pylon outside the navigation channel at a point approximately 28 metres from the south quay.

Another one of Samuel Becket bridge, this time I wanted to create some symmetry interest by making a mirror image of just one single file! The only thing I had to do is clone a different motion blur vehicle and I removed some other things for a more defined and realistic image.

Thank you for looking :)

I just got a call from RTE telling me that this photo was the overall winner of their Autumn Weather photography competition. It will be on all weather bulletins tomorrow, 20th Oct. It will also feature in their 2014 calendar. The night I got the shot I had actually planned a shot along the canal which didn't work out so I headed for the quays, arriving just after sunset. It happened to coincide with the closing of the bridge for the filming of a "secret" U2 promotional video (thanks Bono), so there were no cars on the bridge. So the lesson in all that for me is - never give up!
