The Haflinger, also known as the Avelignese, is a breed of horse developed in Austria and northern Italy (namely the South Tyrol region) during the late 19th century. Haflinger horses are relatively small, are always chestnut in color, have distinctive gaits described as energetic but smooth, and are well-muscled yet elegant. The breed traces its ancestry to the Middle Ages; there are several theories for its origin. Haflingers, developed for use in mountainous terrain, are known for their hardiness.

Icelandic Horses

This was taken several years ago while visiting in Texas. These horses were such handsome animals.

BILL ADAMS | SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY

Esquire, a 9-year old Holsteiner Warmblood owned by professional horseman and trainer Lester Buckley, strikes a pose during Hawaii Horse Expo 2008, held this past Saturday and Sunday at the Kahilu Theatre and adjacent grounds in Waimea.

This is the horse that walked up to me as I was taking the previous photo. I don't know much about horses or breeds. Does anyone know what breed this is? My daughter who is familiar with some horses didn't know, but said it looked primitive, based on the smaller ears and size of head. Anyone know for sure? He/she was so friendly.

We saw lots of Sheep and Horses throughout our journey around Iceland, most were very timid unlike these who were quite inquisitive.

The Icelandic horse is a breed of horse developed in Iceland. Although the horses are small, at times pony-sized, most registries for the Icelandic refer to it as a horse. Icelandic horses are long-lived and hardy. In their native country they have few diseases; Icelandic law prevents horses from being imported into the country and exported animals are not allowed to return.

This is a smilar picture of a photo already on my photostream, this time without the texture but with some other effects applied in Camera Raw..

I no longer use Camera Raw with my Canon 7D, as for some reason, it adds in noise. But it seems to be OK with my old Canon 300D. Must be something different with the CR2 RAW file format.

In general, most Icelandic Horses are either 4 or 5 gaited. The four-gaiters would have: walk, trot, tolt, canter. Five-gaiters would add the pace.

Dreams are like the paints of a great artist. Your dreams are your paints, the world is your canvas. Believing, is the brush that converts your dreams into a masterpiece of reality.

Both in commerce and agriculture horses literally made the wheels of Liverpools industry keep turning. Hard at work in fields, towns, and the docks. Massive horses with great muscular strength and an even temperament looked after by men who took great pride in the animals in their care.

horse in the Moscow city park. In many large parks, open stables. You can take a walk on horseback and enjoy nature.
