How cool is this!

This morning I had the honour of driving this beauty through the streets of Blyth Ontario, as part of the FFAO's (Fire Fighters Association of Ontario) annual convention.

This is a 1949 Mack, purchased by the City of Milwaukee and began its service on February 28, 1949. This truck answered thousands of fire calls and was taken out of service in September 1997, and used at a driving school until 1986. From 1986 to 1996 the truck rested in a private museum.

Today, Milwaukee Engine 25 rests in another private museum in southwestern Ontario.

Remember when we were young,

We always had such fun!

Those were happy days,

When we had carefree ways.

We didnt know it then,

But looking back again,

I think of you with love,

My one and only bruv!

Even though you drove me mad!

You were a typical lad.

Laughing and teasing me,

Sometimes a fight thered be!

But SUDDENLY life changed,

It was never the same again,

We grew up very fast,

Toys and games were things of the past.

But i looked up to see,

A brother who cared for me,

More than i could ever know,

And still hes my SPECIAL BRO!

And he always will be,

For ALL eternity.

I got this one from Shanghai on my first visit in 1997. They call it "Jiefang" truck and Jiefang means liberation. This one is surprisingly detailed and required great deal of time producing. It was the victory of cheap labour. Now it will be harder to find this quality at the price I paid as everything in Shanghai is not so affordable like it used to be.

In my Scrapyard, this Mini Countryman estate needs a little tlc. Unlike normal scrapyards, the intention is to repair and repaint all these in time. Meanwhile, it adds an atmosphere.

A suspicious device was across the street from Toys R Us. They blocked off one of the entrances to the Lakeland Square Mall. Lakeland Police was first on scene. LPD doesn't have a bomb squad, so they had to wait on TPD's bomb squad to arrive. After close investigation, it was determined to be a low jack device beeping because the vehicle it was taken off of, was stolen.

A pencil with wheels? Not pointless, but that's where you have to draw the line.

If you enlarge the photo you can also clearly see the Soft Toy Tiger behind the Pilot and see the visor and oxygen mask with there Tiger covers on.

Pink car for girls

While stopped northbound at Wheeling, I hopped out for a quick grab shot of my consist before meeting a southbound and heading north again. Not a good shot by any means, but a couple days later, this consist would be scattered like broken toys in downtown Waukesha.

WC TO49 Wheeling Ill. September 1998

A small shuttle used to ferry visitors from one undersea terminal to another. There's space in the back to fit two figs; but I need to push the floor down one plate and use panels along the sides which I don't have in red. So it's possible but not with the relatively limited red parts I have. Enough to get the concept I guess. Play features are front grabby hands, two opening cockpits, a ventral cargo container (for suitcases etc) and a high swoosh rating.

I really wanted to love the Atlantis sets back in 2010 (that long ago???), it had some great ideas and potential, and undersea-themed toys are just rad in general, but the vehicle designs felt really awkward. Most of the sets from Aquazone and Aqua Raiders have submarine shapes; they look like either subs or fish (or both) but the Atlantis vehicles were strange-looking. Well-built with lots of features, nonetheless I feel that they need to have purpose and intent when you first see them and sometimes it doesn't come across. How it reads. I only got the Deep Sea Raider (7984): great parts in that one. I did like the black shark (8058) but missed out on picking one up.

How well the theme sold and how much fun kids had with playing with them I don't know but that's just my thoughts on the Atlantis designs as a toy collector. What did you guys make of Atlantis a decade ago and how does it stack up today? What (if anything) would you have done differently with it?
