Sandstone rock on the Barrenjoey Headland.
Palm Beach, Sydney.
It's been there for a long time, I suspect!!
And here's legendary Australian band 'Goanna' with their song: 'Solid Rock' (1982) - from their album 'Spirit Of Place'.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSNxFGW09Mo
‘Solid Rock’ deals with issues of land rights for the aboriginal people of Australia. According to songwriter Shane Howard, the inspiration for the song came on a 10-day camping trip at Uluru (Ayres Rock) in Central Australia, in 1980, where he saw ‘an incredible injustice that needed to be dealt with … I had to reassess my whole relationship with the land and the landscape, and understand that we [the white people] had come from somewhere else, and we had disempowered a whole race of people when we arrived.’
The protest message resonated with the Australian public, with the single peaking at Number 3 on the Australian Kent Music Report and winning Best Debut Single at the 1982 Countdown Music and Video Awards.
They were a band that also passionately supported environmental issues. Their next song was entitled: 'Let The Franklin Flow' - all about the controversial decision to dam the Franklin River in Tasmania and thus destroy a pristine wilderness, at a time when Tasmanians, it seemed, wanted to dam all their rivers and build massive power stations everywhere!!

Neil Murray shown performing here in a woolshed on my brother's farm in south western New South Wales in Australian. Murray is one of Australia's most distinguished singer songwriters as can be seen from the entry in Wikiperida I have included below.
"Neil James Murray (born 1956 in Ararat, Victoria) is an Australian musician, singer-songwriter-guitarist and writer. He was a founding member of the Warumpi Band (1980–88, 1995–2000) which was the first major rock group with mostly indigenous members and was an influential Aboriginal rock band. Murray was recognised as one of Australia's foremost songwriters at the APRA Awards of 1995 by winning Song of the Year for "My Island Home" – as covered by former band mate, Christine Anu. The track was also listed in APRA Top 30 Australian songs of all time in 2001.
Murray has had a solo career since 1989 and had issued eight studio albums by 2014. Murray regularly performed throughout Australia, either with a backing band, The Rainmakers, or solo. He undertook a series of performances with Shane Howard (ex-Goanna), as 2songmen from 2006 to 2007. A similar set of gigs, One of those Tunes, occurred with Jim Moginie (ex-Midnight Oil) from mid-2013 to early 2014." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Murray_(Australian_musician)
Australian legend, singer and songwriter Shane Howard spoke and closed the Nature for Life protest rally formalities yesterday with a modified rendition of the classic Australian song Solid Rock. So emotional, there could have been a tear. I don't think you can listen to this song and not feel something.

What a place, Wild Rivers, Tasmania. You probably need to go there. I am old enough to remember the politics of the Gordon Franklin river system of the early 1980's, a tumultuous time. A band called Goanna wrote a marvellous song and you can see it in many forms on youtube. I found this one this morning, a newer version by Shane Howard from the band Goanna. A story of the Franklin river from him as well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTzHsRMDgsQ I for one am glad that the system was saved, as I say, was a young bloke at the time watching it all go down, big times for Bob Hawke and Bob Brown. Many tourists today would have no idea of what went on, but it is there for them to see because of what went on.
Let The Murray Flow - words and lyrics by Shane Howard and Anne Todd.
”Oh Australia, the hardest heart would understand. Just to feel your wilderness, has stirred these things in me.
Chorus: Let the Murray Flow, let the river run free, The Murray River should be strong and free, From the Snowy mountains to Goolwa’s southern shores, Has to be something worth fighting for.
Oh the Murray Mouth, it’s at the end of its journey south, Its Mulloway and The Coorong, depend upon you now.
Chorus
The river gums and the pelicans, The paddlesteamers and the Murray Cod, Just to swim in the river - cools the blood in me.
Chorus
We stand together with the Ngarrindjeri, To save the river now for all to see, The Great White Pointers and the Southern Right Whales, Are swimming in Encounter Bay.

Somewhere in Wales sometime in the Seventies. Mad camping holiday. We ended up getting thrown off a camp-site in Betws-Y-Coed in the middle of the night. Good fun.

Port Fairy Folk Festival 2011
.....not sure who is advising Shane on his wardrobe these days, but I'm hoping it's just a phase he's going through!!
Jodi and Liz, as well as Loren Kate (I think) did a trio version of this the day before. It stunned me, so I didn't get the camera out. It was even better than Goanna's version. And here John Schumann and Shane Howard were at the festival, maybe not even aware they were being upstaged. I was really hoping though though that there'd be a surprise collaboration in the closing ceremony.
