[100 favs! Thanks a lot!]

Studies have suggested that pocket gophers have made the Mima mounds . Studies revealed one of the key clues to Mima mounds is that unlike most gophers, the furballs push soil upward, toward the surface, instead of shoving soil downhill farther into their burrows like most gophers do. It is guessed that the Washington Mima Mounds are up to 700 years old.

This is a 30mm larva of Mimas christophi, a species of moth of the Sphingidae family, feeding on Grey Alder (Alnus incana). It is known from the Russian Far East, north-eastern China, South Korea and northern and central Japan. The wingspan is 59–77 mm.

☛ Casa Mima, like embroidery - a colonial style building built in the 1920s. One of the many 'Casa Particular' (Bed and Breakfast) of Centro Habana, Cuba. You can admire many interesting and colorful buildings dating from the late 18th century and the 19th century in the Centro Habana district. Many are worn by time and many are undergoing renovation. But the fact remains that they are fascinating and a visit is a must ... on foot, of course!

Mimas was a mythologic giant, killed by the God Ifestos (Vulkan) and buried from the other Gods under this imposing mount in Minor Asia. Exlpore 11/01/08

The Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve in western Washington hosts a great example of Mother Earth's mysteries. Scientists still don't know exactly how these mounds were created. This 500+ acre park is dotted with the mounds that stand about 4-5 feet tall and 20-25 feet wide. It makes for a great Sunday afternoon stroll, though.

Edited Cassini PR image of Saturn's moon Mimas with all of its multitude of craters.

Shot with a Samsung Galaxy S6

Saturn's moon Mimas is visible as a mere speck near upper right. At 246 miles (396 kilometers across) across, Mimas is considered a medium-sized moon. It is large enough for its own gravity to have made it round, but isn't one of the really large moons in our solar system, like Titan. Even enormous Titan is tiny beside the mighty gas giant Saturn.

This view looks toward Saturn from the sunlit side of the rings, from about 27 degrees above the ring plane. The image was taken in green light with the Cassini spacecraft wide-angle camera on March 27, 2017.
