Balancing Rocks in the Ottawa River.
Remic Rapids Park is situated on the shore of the Ottawa River, Ottawa, Canada.
To enhance the park’s beauty, artist John Felice Ceprano has created balanced rock sculptures on the river’s edge since 1986. The artist uses fossilized and colourful rocks found on the shore to build these sculptures by hand. They provide a free and exploratory public art experience that complements the park’s natural setting.
My yearly visit to see the rock sculpture and balancing from John F. Ceprano on the Ottawa River. An real institution in Ottawa, John having done his work for over 25 years. There are many beautiful piece of artwork, but this one shows some of the underlying magic.

At Remic Rapids as the night falls. More and more rock art sculptures are appearing after the skillful assembly by John Ceprano.
Ottawa River finally receded enough to expose the flat shores of Remic Rapids so that John Ceprano could start a new batch of balancing rock sculptures. His creations are adding a peaceful touch to the sunset canvas of the river shore.

Happy 😊 on Saturday!
"In 1986, John Felice Ceprano began creating balanced, natural rock sculptures at this site. The sculptures are made entirely by hand , using rocks found exclusively at this location. The rocks are heavily fossilized and have a rich variety of colours, textures and forms . Every day the sculptor returns to work, creating sculptures until they fall when the project is dismantled for the winter. The National Commission has provided support for the project since 2000. Not too long ago, it dawned on me that I hadn't been to this area of town since early in the year when I changed jobs and locations, so today as the sun started to set I figured I'd go take a look.
The Rock Sculptures by John Felice Ceprano are back again this year and as always, they're amazing.
A very busy place for photographers to gather at sunrise and sundown, and today's sunset was no exception, luckily for me though, I found a little corner that no one had noticed.
If you'd like to know more about the artist, you can visit his website, www.jfceprano.com/.
Hope everyone has had a good day.

Another day at the office done; two more until the weekend. This week is dragging on and I'm much too excited to get to Saturday.
Anyway, had some time today so I figured it was time to go exploring.
Realizing that I was pretty close to the river, of course that's where I ventured and found out that I was very close to the John Ceprano Rock Sculptures.
There's so many of them, and they're all so unique and wonderful, if you haven't yet had the chance to visit them this year, I suggest you do. They're superb.
Anyway, hope everyone has had a good day.

This is John F Ceprano, an artist responsible for transforming the Ottawa River shoreline with his beautiful rock art. I was lucky enough to get there near the end of his day finishing one of his rock sculpture to get a few shots of him. 2 more in the comments

I was fortunate to meet balanced rock sculpture artist John Felice Ceprano at Remic Rapids Park when I was there at the end of August (see previous posts). John agreed to have his portrait taken, and we had a nice chat afterward.
The 77-year-old artist creates the sculptures by hand, using stones found in the river. He's been doing this since 1986; his work supported by the National Capital Commission since the year 2000. There is no glue, no screws, no adhesive – balancing the rocks comes down to physics, using the power of gravity.
Once I developed and scanned my negatives I emailed him a copy and he was pleased with the result. Taken during golden hour on Kodak Gold.

Every year since 1986, the sculpture John Felice Ceprano has used natural, heavily fossilized rocks to build numerous sculptures at Remic's Rapids on the Ottawa River. Each year as winter approaches all of the sculptures are taken down and the next year he builds entirely new ones.

“Gatineau, Quebec resident John Ceprano began the art of rock balance sculpture at Remic Rapids Park in Ottawa in 1985, and received a Canada Council Arts grant for the project in 1989. Since 2000, the National Capital Commission, a federal government agency, has provided an annual contract for the project. Ottawa Rock Art Inc, a non for profit corporation, was established in 2009, mandating the 'rock balanced sculpture project', including performance artists, workshops, lectures, and 'Balanced Art World International' festivals, from 2012 to 2014.
In 2015, he received the 'Award of Excellence' for urban design in public places from the city of Ottawa, and designated an 'Ottawa Ambassador' from Ottawa Tourism in 2016. In 2017, the project was included in 'Canada 150'. Permanent sculptures have been produced since 1999, and his initial discipline in painting has continued since the 1960's. He presently resides in Gatineau, Québec.”

Excerpt from explore150.tigweb.org:
Gatineau resident John Felicè Ceprano is the artist behind the rock balance sculptures at the edge of the Ottawa River at Remic Rapids Park. This project, titled “The Art of Balance”, started in 1986 and continues to today.
From Ceprano’s website: “the Rock Balance Sculptures provide a free and exploratory art experience for all. They are built in harmony with the spectacular natural setting and has become a gathering place, drawn by its social, historical, and aesthetic-meditative environment.
The sculptures are built by hand, balanced and stabilized with small masonry shims, providing the public with an interesting and safe, artistic experience. The public is asked to not touch the sculptures, as they will easily fall.”
