The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC) host a day-long workshop on April 18, 2012, covering on post-earthquake safety evaluation of buildings. Participants included more than 60 structural engineers from across Tennessee. In the event of an earthquake, TEMA may ask those attending this course to volunteer to conduct post-earthquake building inspections. The workshop covered structural basics, rapid visual screening hazardous materials safety, field safety and impact of earthquakes on different types of structures.

Director James Bassham opens TEMA's Catastrophic Air Operations Workshop at Paris Landing State Park. The workshop’s goal is to refine the state’s Catastrophic Air Movement and Control Plan, which would be used in response to a catastrophic earthquake in West Tennessee.
In attendance are local emergency managers, TEMA, Tennessee National Guard, private sector partners FedEx and several Tennessee airport operators, air medical providers Air Evac EMS Inc., UT Lifestar and Vanderbilt Life Flight, the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC), FEMA, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Safety Administration (TSA), NorthCom (U.S. Military) and representatives from the states of Arkansas, Georiga, North Carolina, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and South Carolina.
