The Grove at Virginia Tech

At Virginia Tech, the President's "residence" is called the Grove. It's mostly for entertaining and official gatherings of the Office of the President.

I haven't sketched for two weeks, and it shows. But, it's about the journey and not necessarily about where I am today. :) Besides, I'm happy with some of the things that I tried here... things that Drew Bryant does real well.... namely edges....

Tasmanian Devil

So, I'm trying my hand at some new media. This was a Tasmanian Devil request I churned out for my Flickr friend Mike Cole. On paperboard using gouache.

Tasmanian Devils don't really look like the Looney Tunes character.

Squires Plaza - Good Guys Wear White

Nike is visiting campus for the big "reveal" of the Tech "visitor" jerseys (for the Maryland game this weekend).

Nike set up this makeshift (Nike never does anything makeshift) stage and had Bruce Smith, Antonio Freeman and Frank Beamer on-hand to show off the new threads. Good gathering.

This looks sketchy b/c I was working fast. Gotta admit, speed kills. I'm gonna try my hand at this again soon.... just the exercise of working faster pushes me outside of my comfort zone some. Feels more gesture like. Event sketching is challenging. I'm gonna try to do some more of it.

Drillfield from Pylons

Here's the view of the Virginia Tech Drillfield looking west from the War Memorial Pylons.

Fall is slipping away to brown, dull colors of winter... not quite cold enough for all grays and browns, but it's creeping closer.
