The one that saved the day is the fire extinguisher seen in the middle. If we had not had that one our home would have been at least partly destroyed in a fire on the 1st of March before the fire brigade could arrive.
By showing you this I am hoping to get you all to think about fire safety. Do you have smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and fire blankets at home?
If not, do yourselves a favor and go out and buy them as soon as possible.
The fire in our home started in the black oval pot where margarine was to be melted but due to forgetfulness caught fire instead.
When I noticed it the flames where going up to the cooker hood. I threw the lid over the pot which extinguished the fire in the pot but the hood had already caught fire.
Luckily we had a fire extinguisher at home which I ran to get and quickly put out the flames with.
Important lessons:
1. Never leave the stove unattended when cooking with fat
2. Always have fire safety devices at home
3. Make sure you have backups of your data in another location (the powder may have damaged the hard drives deleting years of photos)
