"Urumqi city of Tian Shan district Qing hai Mosque" reads
the plaque outside. The stunning light blues, greens and pinks give
this mosque a very welcome feel though only if you can navigate the
entrance to the building, walk up three flights of stairs and find
your way to this, the main hall, instead of ending up at the
restaurant the floor below... :)
Although the mosque is located in Urumqi (Xinjiang province), about 5 minutes walk from the grand bazaar, it was built for the Qinghai Chinese Muslim community. Qinghai province is located southeast of XInjiang province. It receives its name on account of the Qinghai lake, also known as, lake Koko Nor, the largest lake in China with a circumference of 220 miles.
