In communication, we often assume that our minds are associatively relating. Yet when isolating certain qualities to relate through, it becomes apparent that each person is referencing completely different associations. Which leads one to ask if we ever really know what we're saying to each other. To learn how to better communicate through a central language, the artists collaborated in an experiment. The qualities of Hot and Dry, and Cold and Wet, were used as backgrounds in free association to create two paintings. For Reese, hot and dry evoked standing in the desert beneath a hot summer sun. Whereas for Terri, the fever of a child came into mind.
