I am tired of all the negative messages, images and words about women's bodies and how it is so necessary for us all to hate our appearances.
A large part of my undergraduate experience involved studying and talking about body image (including my senior thesis, about body image in the media), so it's nothing new to me. But as of today, I'm officially done with it all.
Have you seen this story? The three year old obsessed with her looks, the four year old on a diet? Oprah addressed this craziness in a show awhile back called "Stupid Girls". The patriarchy is keeping us down, man! It's to the point now that we all need to band together and fight these powerful messages of self-hate and body-loathing. No more apologies, no more excuses, no more nonsense.
Have you seen that new Lifetime show, How To Look Good N@ked? It's not about dieting or surgery, it's about learning to love yourself in your body now. I really love it and it's about damn time that real women of all sizes can be featured on television and not be a "before the diet" picture! Try to watch the show if you haven't already.
Ladies of flickr, you are all so beautiful inside and out. I sincerely hope that you love who you are as well as how you look. Let's accept, appreciate, and love our bodies!
Hurrah! This is up to #168 in Explore! Keep spreading the word!
