siphon coffee, Kaldi, Hongdae, Seoul

siphon coffee, Kaldi, Hongdae, Seoul by superlocal.
mostly i have morning coffee at home, but when i head out to Hongdae, i
can't resist popping into Kaldi. i love the way siphon coffee is made,
like a science experiment. they don't serve there so feel free to bring along a snack. closed sundays.
from exit 5, Hongik University station, turn right walk 2 blocks. when you hit the mini roundabout, turn left to the next mini roundabout. this area is mostly pedestrainized with a small road running through it. at the second mini round about, turn right. just past halfway up the street on your left is Kaldi Coffee House. the end of the street slopes upwards to set of traffic lights, and there's a small florist on the corner.

This is pretty neat. What's the process? We have nothing like this in the US.

Oh, I wish I could get my coffee there! It is impossible to find a coffee house using Siphon (Syphon?) process in the states. This is the best way to make a good cup of coffee. I make my coffee this way at home in a vintage vacpot. Anywhere else when I get coffee out I'm usually disappointed. I'm shocked there are no coffee houses around Atlanta that brew this way. If anybody knows of brewers near Atlanta using the vacuum process please let me know!

This is really neat. I haven't seen coffee being made this way before. Wonderful shot, I especially like how the barista is blurred, ghost like.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Caffeine Planet, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

I believe that is the Yama Tabletop Brewer. You can order those here:

I use a different pot but it is the same concept. This is a great brewing method and awesome photo!

Here is the one I use (bodum santos):
