Dear Flickr world,

it's been one year & a month since I last updated. I just want to tell you how far I've come and I now know who I should be and what I should be doing. It's been such a incredible journey but I hope to be updating more. Let me introduce you to Alan. My favourite person ever. He's my BFG(Big Friendly Giant) He is my source of inspiration and wisdom when I'm down.

This is my long term project documenting a private rooming house for low income earners. I've been traveling here for soon to be a year & will keep going. These residents have touched my lives and completely changed my perspective of the world. They have been the most wonderful and brave for letting me photograph their lives and their struggles and their being.

A lot of rooming houses in the world are usually seen as a bad environment, a haven for drug users or deemed dangerous, etc. Rooming houses like Carrical are the complete opposite - Although most residents suffer from mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, manic depression or frequent drug abuse but they are all in all - still human beings like everyone of us. I relate more to them than anyone else I've ever met.

Welcome to Carrical. Open your hearts and minds but please leave with a change in you.

love,
Esther

rain-storm

rain-storm

oh, the countryside.
freedom and love.
but wait, what is it?
just poor little Will the dog
stuck in his kennel and on a chain,
as the rain pours over this dry land.

i walked outside and was surprised to find these cows staring at me but as i approached them, they started running
it's been so long, i forget that you can find cows in your backyard.

ahh, the country.
