Alright, I've got a stupid question. This is
a Japanese creation (not this physical
mock-up, but the whole idea of the thing),
right? If so, why is all the writing on it in
English?

@Daniel Because the writing on it in the
cartoon was in English (at least in the
series that had enough on-screen detail).

The Gundam was fielded by a multi-national
government (The Earth Federation). So, like
the UN, they used English as a common
language.
Keep in mind that although this is from a
cartoon, it was aimed at intelligent
teenagers and therefore made an effort at
being at least somewhat believable.

Its Tomino. Everything he does uses English
as the primary language except when dealing
with the Chinese. Even in Japan, they used
English. Amaro himself was half American. It
can be pretty funny sometimes.
Look at the story line for the One Year war.
It's WWII without the Japanese. White base
was made by an uninvalled (not the
Federation) third part (US) and made a ship
with the red white and blue (with a bit of
green) color scheme. Among the crew, only two
were Japanese, and one of them died. Of
course everything in the V project would be
in English, they represent America.
