Architect: Chamberlin, Powell and Bon Built: 1965-1976 One of London's foremost examples of Brutalist architecture, the Barbican Estate was built on the edge of the City of London, on a site that was bombed extensively during the Second World War. As well as providing residence to around 4000 people, the estate is also home to the Barbican Centre, which includes cinemas, theatres, art galleries, concert halls and a City of London library; the City of London School for Girls; and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
