1/15: It's done and we spent a total of $3651.59
Our original budget was $2000
We did not factor in drywall mudding and sanding, the handyman who helped us with demo and restructuring, the dumpster for construction garbage and the beloved porta potty.
$1440 in extra (but necessary) expenses.
We were very close to on budget without those expenses at $2211.
Hooray!

This is where Money or Quicken would categorize all of these for you under "household" or "home improvement" and you could print out a cute and fiscally alarming little pie chart at the end of the month. :)

Every year I start a "spending tracking" spreadsheet in excel. I lose interest around March.
