Actually, it's sort of stylish. I can see how it wouldn't help since I would be tempted to pull out my checkbook to show off the checkbook of doom.

Funny story. We got it from a couple who don't speak to us anymore.
They used to get Skull Checks because they like to wear black and dye their hair black and get tattoos and sneer at the 'normals', get a dog specifically because it's the kind of breed that scares the shit out of people and then wonder why people are so scared of them. I mean, they're just like everyone else.
So the checks sort of fit their personality! Anyway, each pack of checks came with these covers.
I found the same checks at this site: Skull Checks. It's unclear if they come with the cover, but you could call and ask.

You always have a story behind things, which is what makes your blog so great. Although I do sorta wish you said, "You can get them at Hot Topic!" which would make my life easier.
Frankly, those ex-friends sound tediously pretentious to me, so you're probably not missing much other than fodder for other blog posts.
