6 centimeters
As any one who regularly looks at my photo's I live on a hill , with a great view over london.
Last Thursday it snowed and i measured 6 cms of the white stuff had settled on the road , a bit more on my car , but 6 cms on the actual road. Since then my road and much of the surrounding neighborhood has been pretty much impassable - especially the side turnings.Gritter lorries have been very thin on the ground but busses have run on the main roads - when they can get by the scores of cars that have been abandoned , unable to cope the the hilly iced slopes.
I have a 4x4 and have struggled to get out of my road. Greenwich - the local council , for the second time this year , have failed spectacularly to cope/ be bothered leaving many old people unable to leave their homes , unable to do their Christmas shopping or basic grocery shopping.
I live just 8 miles from Big Ben , nearer as the crow flies , in one of the most famous capital cities on the planet but It's like a scene from 28 Days Later outside with cars left at all angles littering the streets. The postman wont deliver here in case he slips and delivery vans are unable to get to me and the street around me. Yesterday it took my wife 3hrs to drive 4 miles.
Its nearly 2010.
Still , there are always the floods to look forward to when it eventually melts.
