I was photographing the races at Revolution Speedway and during the intermission I went into the pits to photograph at a less frantic pace. There I met the driver of the purple and blue number 37 car, Ronnie Woods. As I was walking by, I noticed Ronnie's boots. I introduced myself and asked about them, thinking perhaps they were some new fireproof gear or something. Ronnie laughed, and said he wears them for his diabetes.
Ronnie and his wife Juanita traveled from Haughton Louisiana to spend the afternoon and evening racing. They are an independent rrace team, and call themselves RonJuan Racing. They have been racing for seven years together. They jokingly call their car the Easter Egg.
Ronnie's friendly demeanor and good humor had me cheering for him later in the evening when I was back inside the oval track with the long lens. Ronnie, thank you for being stranger #165 in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.
