I am not a fan of blurs in general. I see them used too often as a gimmick rather than to support the content of the photograph. A blur implies motion, and while it might not make much sense if used on a sleeping gull flock, it seemed perfect while I watched eagles rushing past, grabbing fish as the light fell over the Mississippi. The blur then revealed the motion of the subject and emphasized the content of the image.
