Monkey Christmas and a Happy New Year

And the Wii controllers are still there! ;-)

One last shot before the Christmas tree comes down for the year.

That monkey picture I had put on canvas for the gallery show here in Austin. It just happens to match the red on our walls so we put up a copy of it, because nothing says the holidays like a monkey on a wall from a Muslim country.

One time I was charged with getting rid of the Christmas tree while the parents were away. Rather than drag it out into the cold, I thought I'd toss it bit by bit into the fireplace. I Grabbed a few of the longer, lower branches and threw them into the fireplace. In a few seconds they flamed up, spitting a 6 foot flame out from the fireplace and roaring like a space shuttle launch. I panicked, fearing that I just set the house on fire. I ran to the kitchen to fill a bucket with water. While it was filling, I ran back to check on the blast furnace, still blazing and roaring away. I ran back to kitchen, grabbed the bucket with whatever water there was in it and ran back to the fireplace. By this time the flames had retreated into the interior of the fireplace.

I dragged the remaining parts of the christmas tree out to the cold sidewalk, went back into the house, opened the windows to air out the house before the parents came back, none the wiser. But I was.
