After the cellos went silent

Once the concert was over, I roamed around the streets of Lyon deep into the night. It helps that I don't sleep much and I had a good rotation on the iPod.

I love how these foreign cities sometimes illuminate their trees with unexpected lights. If I were on a city council somewhere, I'd light up everything in the city strange colors at night. I don't know what else the city council does... besides bickering about nonsense... I wish they would focus on making things prettier at night. Please let me know if you see anyone running on that platform and the blog will endorse them!

Very cool. Know what you mean about wandering in a foreign city....a serious passion of mine as well :)

Did you notice how all the city lights get shut off at once in Shanghai at about 10:30PM? Kinda eerie actually.

Nice work as always Trey :)

These lights aren't magic: they use electricity, and this one is missing. So I don't want more light. Additionnaly, in most streets of most cities, there isn't anybody at night.

If you're looking for somewhere that lights up loads of buildings etc then the destination of choice is Luxembourg City - visited there during the xmas break and there's some absolutely stunning views to be found there as well as lit up buildings, statues etc.

We've just got people here in the Netherlands against "Light pollution" i.e. excessive light at night. Not good for energy consumption and not really necessary, but I get your gist.

Ahhh ... Lyon, one of my favorite French cities. Been there a couple of times now. Yes, the lights at night around there make for an amazing atmosphere. A great perspective and capture of such. Thanks for the comment on my latest posting ... probably one of the best that one can get. I do find it odd that I actually came across your HDR tutorial on your blog site briefly and bookmarked it a while back and today, while looking for something else, saw that bookmark and thought "where have I recently seen that name before?"

Au contraire, mon frere, lighting "for effect" is generally just a source of light pollution and incredibly energy inefficient. During a blackout in L.A. 911 got lots of calls from people in a panic over a mysterious glow in the sky,... it was the milky way, and many folks had never seen it due to the perpetual glow of the city.

      Nice shot, non-the-less.
