The Mysteries and Adventures of the New Year (oh, and I updated and revamped the HDR Tutorial!)

The Mysteries and Adventures of the New Year (oh, and I updated and revamped the HDR Tutorial!) by Stuck in Customs.
I look forward to many more adventures with you this year and in coming years. We have a lot of things to do, don't we? Mais oui!

Change and tumult and highs and lows will come and go with the winds, but I will always be here, ready to take you on fun new adventures with unexpected discoveries. This year has had a lot of unexpected things happen in all corners of life, and I don't expect the next to be any different. In the end, I'll do my best to keep pushing forward and exploring the world and the world of ideas with you.

If life gets kind of confusing or you get down, come visit to take your mind where it would rather be anyway. At best, it will be a deep experience, and at worst, it will be a pleasant distraction. I'll take the worst if that's the best I can get!

For the last photo of the year, I hope I have selected a great one to set the tone for the next year. I've been in artful concert with this one for what seems like ages. This happenstance scene is from a remote Hindu temple in the Indonesian jungle. It was a horribly stormy day and I could have easily found myself quite miserable... but I had seen this before, seen these patterns, and I knew I'd have the chance to see the sun again. Just for a few moments, the sun appeared there, and it was timeless. I didn't think about the future, I just sat there, unconsciously moving around the temple and capturing the moment forever.

Okay, so... moving into left-brain mode now (getting practical logistical things done...), there have been a number of changes to the blog at www.stuckincustoms.com !

1) I updated my HDR Tutorial! It has been almost completely revamped. I have a few minor things to fix - let me know if you see any typos, because, as you know, I am horrible at catching my own... (anyone want to be my editor out there?)

2) A new Header Photo and CSS Background! Hit Refresh on your browser in case you don't see it

3) A new "Reviews" section. You can see that over on the right.

4) A new "Popular Articles" section to catch some of the cool stuff that is now buried deep in the blog

5) Minor fixes: Comment font sizes, Comment entry box streamlining, Safari problem where the fonts were huge for single posts...

6) Enabled comments on "Pages" - things like the "About Me" and "My Equipment" pages did not allow comments before

Great work, I've been a fan for a little while now. I Just checked out your new tutorial, it's even better now, thanks! For the editing... right after you start about PS after the first screenshot of it, layers is spelled wrong ("you can see 6 layers there") Also, a little below that, right above the next screenshot, the ABC ticker is on the left, not the right like you write.
Great work, your work and tutorials have improved my skills quite a bit, Thanks!

Happy New Year! I love the processing of this shot, but I'm really not sure about the angle. I think it would have worked better if the path was a bit more central in the shot. Just an opinion...

Have a wonderful New Year my friend!
All the best to you and your best mate, D3X, as well as your whole family!

Really like the new tutorial version and that you finally made that darn comment box look good... haha... but one little thing though, the brown color on the outside is a bit too red for my personal liking. More of a modest classic brown hue would not distract that much as my eyes always get carried away to the outer edge of the frame... (Could be me only though... LOL)

Oh, I almost forgot today's picture... With a sky colored up like that you do need no fireworks at all. Great processing, as if that would be a new trait of you! Also love those soft swirling clouds and the contrasting and mind blowing amount of detail on the temple. Stunner, mate!

Very nice...I notice you import your NEF RAWs straight into Photomatix...have you tried processing them first in PS with no exposure adjustments, just Noiseware NR and save to 16bit tiff for each of your 5 or so exposures. Then import the 16-bit tiffs into Photomatix, merge, tonemap, save the HDR as 16bit tiff, then use it as your HDR source. I've tried this way vs. the RAW way with Photomatix with CR2 (Canon RAW) and the results seem a lot cleaner/crisper. I describe it more in detail here.

I definitely will try out LucisArt Plugin, thanks for the great tutorial!

Thanks all!

- I have tried that method and it also works okay -- but I find it to be a an awkward workflow - know what I mean? I suppose it is whatever you get used to! :)

- Ahh yes thanks for finding that mistake!

- Thanks for your frank feedback - I know what you mean - that part is still under consideration!
