The Hidden Icy Blue Vortex

The Hidden Icy Blue Vortex by Stuck in Customs.
The sound was deafening in this little canyon a few miles off the main road. I had no idea what to expect before finding this place and was getting worried as soon as I heard the roar of the glacial water. The crashing came in alarming waves just before I started moving my way down into the canyon.

...and then there was the matter of finding a pretty position that showed all the layers and actions of the canyon... and then there was the matter of selecting the right songs for my ipod during the shot to help me figure things out... and then the matter of wondering why I am describing the seemingly OCD analysis.

It probably sounded even better than this. I'd be the kind of guy who'd want to see how pure that water tasted. You?

Trey, I cannot BELIEVE that it is only a 4/5 second exposure. For shutter speed that "short" it seems as though the water shouldn't be moving that far. Must have been a fast stream! Unless that's just the effect of the 5 photos spliced together making it seem like a longer shutter?

I went to the courthouse in Boston to the spot where you took a picture two months ago and captured an HDR from a similar spot with imposing cloudcover:

Definately pretty cool! The water looks cold and fresh, but I believe you had a difficult time to get a taste if you wanted... Great HDR!

Am a huge fan of your work, but here I think the hdr treatment has not added to the overall quality of the image. I think I would have prefered to see actual water in the waterfall rather than the blur. Hope you can appreciate this positive criticism.

This is St. Mary Falls--I'm so excited that I recognized it. Isn't it amazing? If you traveled up further you'd find great rapids and eventually Virginia Falls (and an actual tolilet).
