Stück in Germany - Dresden After the Bombing, Way after the Bombing

If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks!

After the carpet bombing from the American and the British in 1945, the city of Dresden was left in ruins. in the past 60 years, the city has been meticulously rebuilt to its former glory.

I took the train from Leipzig to Dresden to explore. I don't know if I am lame for going to bed early then waking up at 6 AM to catch an early train to a city to explore, but that's okay with me. Just me and my ipod and my camera...

I've been completely blown away by Dresden. It was recommended to me by a few friends and after spending the day there, I have to say that it compares closely to some of my best photography days around Italy or France. The Baroque architecture is stunning and it is completely unique and charming.

I'm off to Ukraine next... Aeroflot here I come. I hope the mechanic does not come down the aisle again making a collection to buy a part for the plane. That never inspires confidence.

It's with great regret that the Americans and ourselves bombed Dresden to such an extent that it virtually destroyed the Third Reich's industrial capability to produce armaments used against us.... but I'm glad that this fine piece of architecture was spared.
      Great HDR~!

Love the photo and the commentary. Like the longer ( 6/10 sec. ) exposure with the trailing lights and the ghost people. You really travel. Thanks so much for sharing your adventures.

Wow, Trey - this is awesome. Did you go see the "Trümmerberge" which are basically mountains made out of the ruins from the bombings? They have them in Berlin as well. More than anything, the sight of that made me understand the extend of the bombings. Anyway, this is one fantastic shot, a lot better than an HDR of a bunch of drunken business gurus ;)

Glad you discovered Dresden. I took a day trip out from Berlin four years ago and still very fondly remember the city, the architecture, and the excellent art museum.

Imagine, all those floodlights, just for you to make your photo!

Tip: next time forget AEroflot, rent a car and visit Krakow in Poland on the way to Ukraine. It's pet name is "Florence of the North" and that is deserved. Great for photos.
