Clapping music by Steve Reich in a pittabar in BethlehemIn order to view this Flickr video, you'll need to install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player. This is one of my most precious memories of all times : sitting in one of the best pittabars in Bethlehem, a very pretty little town on the westbank, together with two of the most amazing musicians: Michael Weilacher and François Deppe, both connected to Music Fund . I was following them for the radio on their trip through Israël and the Palestinian Territories, where they were giving masterclasses to students of all kind.
While we were having the most delicious food, they started clapping a Steve Reich composition. Just like that. Watch the guys in the back. Listen to Lucas Pairon, not in sight, who says: "meanwhile I'm just finishing the food" Look at the concentrated faces of François Deppe and Michael Weilacher. It's not an easy composition, because everytime they have to leave out one bar (or a part of it, I'm not sure). And I love the end, which shows the playfullness of "serious" musicians like François and Michael. it's magic. It's fun. And strangely enough, I happen to have it on video... Commentsstttijn

This is how we're gonna make it, how this is going to work again. i love it, love the mood, the concentration, the rythm, the guy on the left closing his eyes, almost floating, the other one juggling with the smoking, and the clapping...
