Voyage dans la Lune

Voyage dans la Lune by striatic.
Public Domain still from "Voyage dans la Lune" {1902} by Georges Melies.

uploaded because dilly did a painting of my icon and the texture and shape of the glasses reminded me of this.

Melies, the early cinematic maestro! What an incredible creative mind and talent.

I used to love this portrayal of the moon so much when I was little... I just had a warm and fuzzy moment!

heh.

When I first saw this, this spaceship thing stuck in the moon's eye looked like a leather-bound telescope, with its cap on, no less. Now it looks like one of those little film cases. Partly blinded moon, all the same.

there was an interesting show at the montreal museum of contemporary art featuring the works of willian kentridge right now.

one of the pieces, a seven channel video installation, references melies heavily.

it is delightful.

I was first introduced to Melies' work in a retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney while I was doing my curatorial internship there in 1995. I was bowled away! Have heard about the Kentridge show including his work, but not seen it. Thanks for reminding me of that fantastic show that I saw 10 years ago, Striatic! :-)

we meet once per month, so you have 5 more chances : )

you might want to going the toronto flickr group because that's where the updates and notifications go.

also, i suspect that you might want to put the photos you take while you are here into the group pool.
