HENRY'S GROCERY

HENRY'S GROCERY by striatic.
i've always found independant corner store signs interesting.

"Henry's"

not part of a chain, quirkily independant .. and yet dependant on the Coca-Cola ad to subsidize the sign.

colour .. mostly Coca-Cola red.

I like how they planted the sidewalk-visible sign right in the middle of the word "grocery." Never mind the gap between the words...

I hate to be such a naysayer but I much prefer the unclarified colour versions of almost all of these, and I’m hugely disappointed that the colour version of this one is currently unavailable.

Viewing your photostream has become a unique experience on Flickr, and I am clicking through to the ‘large’ version of every image because of this bw/colour posting technique. I have mixed feeling about this though.

With this kind of image, I find there is a bit of struggle between preserving the documentary aspects of the shot and running with the graphic nature of the image. Since there is no right and wrong I am only offering my feedback as a datapoint for you to consider.

i fixed this.

I hate to be such a naysayer but I much prefer the unclarified colour versions of almost all of these.

when i prefer the colour version, typically i say something other than 'colour', as is the case with this photo.

i still present the B/W because i like the black and white face on the stream as well as the emergent colour.

when i don't make any special remarks about the colour version, typically it remains for reference or for anyone preferring it CC wise.. for use as a stock image, for example.

Thanks for fixing that colour link. This such a prairie storefront.

Actually, I can't remember how I found this photo. I looked at the color version, which seems ordinary. This b and w version, is awesome, with much contrast and texture. Just wanted to compliment you.

gosh, I love this one...

And actually I like the colour version a lot too.l That wisp of pale blue is lovely, all faded by age and the prairie sun.

if you look at the map it isn't really a prairie storefront .. it is close to the center of the city.

Perhaps like me, Kevin is referring to the region rather than the exact location. maybe it's just 'Canadian" or "north American." But I see this and I think of long tours of Manitoba and Saskatchewan
