stop poverty

stop poverty by Stitch.
In spite of everything, the little beggar still manages a smile and seems to be thinking of better things in life.

yes, looks like she is dreaming.
I loved this shot. Everything in it. The city movement on the background and this kid sitting still, with her flip flops off and wondering. That flip flop by her side gives us the feeling that someone is there, but in her case, that´s very relative. I live in Sao Paulo, Brasil and this is so familiar to me.
Awesome shot!

A very striking photo!

You should consider adding it to the Global Poverty Group. I believe it would be appreciated there.

Good reminder that happiness may not have anything to do with possessions. Still poverty, I think, is dehumanising. I like photos like this.

Stitch, I have met so many children who maybe come from circumstances similar to this little girl.
They tend to be so 'street-wise', intellegent, observant, feeling - the artists of tomorrow (no glorification implied).
'Poverty' is relative, or so I am told and, please God, no child should suffer through poverty though we know there are millions who do every day - the unseen ones.
God help the world also if there were ever to be a day when 'middle class numbness' becomes the norm.

thanks for the comments. well said stiltz. Those who suffer thru poverty at a certain stage and rise from it end up becoming very successful in their own way, in whatever endeavor they take up. I'm glad you put God into the picture because it is thru Faith that one overcomes the despair that normally comes when faced with situations of poverty.

I don't think you can STOP poverty. I don't even think you can END poverty. STOP makes it sound like "broke folks" aren't doing it right so they better stop. Poverty is a booming business. Check cashing stores, rent-to-own furniture, and save money and bag your own groceries style stores are quite well afloat because people don't have an abundance of the mighty dollar!
People sitting on curbs are more than "poverty". Poverty is less than $8,000 annual income. Homelessness is it's own topic. Begging is not what regular people below the poverty line do. I realize I'm not in the same country as the person in the pix, but the definations don't change just because she's somewhere else!
STOP poverty? I doubt the grandest Pollyanna can picture that ever happening! I'd like to put and end to unbrideled wealth! I want to stop waste and excess! Swimming pools...movie stars! Y'all come back ya hear?

good points maintrainonline.

Maybe my title is incorrect. What actually happens in my country is people live in poverty but are happy and make do with the little that they have at the same time they foster hope of having better things in life by getting some breaks which happens generations later, as in the case of this child. Perhaps her parents don't have enough means, but this child may have better breaks.

And thanx for that pic which is the basic for a poem on my blog. The posting is about children-poverty in Berlin, Germany.
