The Typography of Blueprint Magazine
|
New lifestyle magazine Blueprint is designed by Debra Bishop in textbook Martha Stewart style --
conservative, clean, classic, feminine.
The publication logo is set in Fling, a clean upright script by Michael Gills that was featured in this week's Script Fonts newsletter. Flourishes from Fling Alternates are used thoughtfully throughout.
Two serif fonts are used for display
purposes: Zuzanna Licko’s Filosofia, and -- to give numerals a bold,
graphic quality -- the buxom didone, Falstaff (see also Carousel).
Blueprint's premier issue also makes
wise use of the oddly beautiful Kursivschrift on pages where something closer to a
roman face is needed. Not much is
written about Kursivschrift, further
mystifying this peculiar mix of serif
and script. All we know is that it has
roots in German mapmaking.
