This is from Point Lobos, State Park, Carmel, California.

The onslaught of stars, that is. The rock in the foreground reminds me of some action hero, but I can't quite put my finger on which one. Thoughts?

I went to film another segment of my "Milky Way Rising" timelapse series.

This was taken in Yosemite near Glacier Point from 12:30 AM until 4:40 AM when twilight overwhelmed the sky.

At time 00:08 until the end, you'll notice a TON of satellites - and a few planes.

The foreground rock is large and lit using a technique I'll be describing in an upcoming column on the BLOG.

This image is the same content, but has been cleaned up a bit more than the previous posting. There is a lot of light spilled from the lighting on the dishes and here I have been a little less heavy handed in correcting the ground brightness. I also color corrected the radio telescopes, and toned down the somewhat over-blue stars in the prior post.

The Milky Way Rises over an array of radio telescopes - two of which are visible here. There is a timelapse to watch, too. In fact, there are three. The best, IMHO is this one.

My great thanks to Andy for both suggesting the trip and doing the lion's share of driving.

#12 was leaking an intense amount of green light. I used Rogelio Bernal Andreo's HLVG filter to change it to white. Nifty. Rogelio is here on Flickr, too.

The moon is rising behind one of the largest radio telescopes on this site. Moonlight is what is making the sky blue here.
