- Probably known outside of western popular culture mostly for its vast energy resources, Kazakhstan was a Soviet republic prior to its independence in 1991.

- The "Kazakh village" scenes in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan were actually filmed in Romania (buried somewhere under the button depicted). They don't ♥ him very much there...
