January 25th 2008 - The word for the day is "knowledge", pass it on

January 25th 2008 - The word for the day is "knowledge", pass it on by Stephen Poff.
Way back when I was just a wee lad, I wanted to make a record. I wanted to record my own songs and have official copies for everyone to listen to. It seemed like the people who could help me figure it out were keeping it like a gaurded secret. (Mind you this was before the internet was a phenomenon.)

Then something magic happened. Someone took an interest in what I was doing and decided to pass on what he knew... to me. This kind person (his name is Clinton Kirby) gave me the tools and sparked something in me that would never die. It changed my life. The DIY (do it yourself) attitude that he had and the generosity with which he shared his knowledge made me a better student. Anything I've been interested in since has been a lot easier for me to research and digest. I vowed to myself after that to share my knowledge with anyone who simply asked for it.

So I now I challenge you. Take someone under your wing, teach them whatever you can, and I promise you that you will be rewarded in watching them grow.

coool! I like the way you've conveyed your message graphically. I take up the challenge....I guess I try and do this in a wider scope with my daughter. I must admit my own lacking confidence in my own abilities means I find it difficult to teach things to others as I'm never sure I have much to offer....food for thought though and something I need to look for within myself.

ps - curse you for making me think deep thoughts before lunch on a friday...lol =D

And knowlede is power! (and with great power comes great responsibility... I could go on like this for a while. :)

Very cool sentiment man... Of course, now I'm even more sad that my intern at work quit last week. (She had an opportunity to work as a set designer and will be way happier and learn more doing it, so no hard feelings... but it was still cool to have a student around the shop every day asking odd questions and making me think about why and how I do some things the way I do.) Ah well... at least I know there will be someone new next season.

@ BjdReams Sweet! Now pass it on ;-)

@ disco~stu I try my best to do this with my daughter as well. You have to really walk carefully with them though. You can't force it. Just give them what they ask for when they finally ask for it. But she's really absorbing everything now at this age.

@ Helder I'm so glad to hear that. If I can change just one persons life for the better, then it's all worth it.

@ mickeysacks First of all... nice Spidey reference ;-), and as for the last bit, it's kind of like the butterfly effect. Maybe you did something little or said just the right thing that will set her in the right direction. I would love to think that I could have that effect on everyone I meet. Unfortunately, sometimes I say the wrong thing... hmmm. That always weighhs heavy on me.
